Alvor is a great destination for golfing enthusiasts so here are some facts about the various Alvor golf courses that you can experience while in Alvor.

alvor golf coruses alamosAlamos

This is one of the latest courses to open in the Algarve, in 2006. It can be found to the north of Portimao and is just a stone’s throw away from the golf course of Morgado.

The course spreads over a 980 hectare estate and features undulating small valleys. The main characteristic that will jump at you is the large green which will seriously demand your putting skills because they are usually raised above the fairway approach and also involve several levels. Your level of accuracy will also be tested by the deep aggressive bunkers.

Alto Golf

This golf course can be found between Portimao, Alvor and the sea. It’s also close enough to the sea to offer the player an occasional view of the sea during some shots.

The Alto Golf coruse is considered to be a reasonable test of the average player’s ability to deal with strategic bunkers, dog-legs, elevated greens and some rather well placed trees. One challenge that requires special mention is the par-5 on the sixteenth – one of the longest holes in Europe.

Gramacho

This course was initially built as a nine-hole course however it was recently extended – in a rather clever way – and redesigned to become a complete 18-hole golf course.

The current Gramacho golf course covers undulating terrain that features olive, almond and carob trees placed all around the place having been planted hundreds of years ago by those who owned the land previously. In order to successfully navigate the coruse you’ll have to be technically accurate and very careful in choosing your club.

These are just the first three, ok four, Alvor golf courses that you can visit while on your trip to Alvor.
