The Alvor beaches are a great attraction of the once very traditional fishing village.  The sandy stretches are a great place on which one can enjoy both the sun and the sea while taking in a variety of watersports. There are a few beaches to choose from, the Alvor Beach itself, the Meia Praia, Praia dos Tres Irmaos, the Praia da Rocha and Dona Ana.

This stretch of golden sands occupies the western section of Alvor and is more a sort of a sandy outcrop that divides the salt water of the Atlantic from the sweet water lagoon of the River Alvor. The beach appeals to visitors of all ages and is a great place to enjoy the sun and the sea offering a lot of spance for beach sports as well as watersports.

But Alvor beach can also be a great place for those looking to relax and sunbathe and when hunger hits – and it will – you can always head to one of the two beach restaurants that will serve you with anything from snacks and drinks to more substantial meals if that is your wish.

Thos staying in Alvor proper will have very easy access to the beach since it’s easy to get there on foot. Those who stay somewhere farther away can benefit from some Alvor car rental services for this as well as other goals – there are plenty of car parking spots in shaded areas as well.

Praia dos Tres Irmaos

This beach is located on the eastern end of Alvor. The name of the beach literally means “Beach of the Three Brothers” named so because of the three tall rocks formations that tower over the sands.

The beach is made of a wide sweep of golden sand and a wooden walkway which is flanked by cafes and restaurants.

One end of the beach is well marked by the Fortaleza da Santa Caterina, a fort dating back to 1691.
